magical cat we love you

To me cats are magical creatures. As a mere human being my perception is  limited to my five senses. Occasionally I’ll get a glimpse into another dimension, or another sense, but the glimpses are fleeting and far between. I have a feeling that cats see more often and more constantly into other dimensions.  Maybe they even have an extra sense or two.

Something a friend of mine once said has remained with me…..He said; ‘Cats are here on Earth as companions to human beings, to keep an eye on us and to report back on how well we are doing’!  Well at what?  Report to who?  How well are we doing I wonder? Its certainly an interesting thought.

The idea of a ‘familiar’ is intriguing: however looking up the word on the Internet I could only find negative connotations linking the word to witchcraft and cavorting with the devil .  Concepts to me which are highly uninteresting, boring more like.

The idea of a ‘familiar’ being a spirit that incarnates as a cat (or bird or other creature) to be with a human being.  Now that I do find interesting. Maybe its the other way round though – maybe its the human incarnating to be with the cat!

The idea of one species helping another in their incanation on Earth and helping their spiritual evolution, resonates very much with me, as animals and particularly cats and birds have helped me so much in my life.  Their presence and companionship, has helped me become a kinder, less judgemental and more loving sort of a person.  Which in my book is spiritual evolution.

Here is a fabulous story by Susan Wagner:

‘My years as a conventional and integrative veterinarian have taught me that the human-animal bond goes beyond companionship. Animals are here to be our guides and teachers, and to help us on this journey called life. The most important lesson they teach us is to love without judgment. They view us as special people, whether or not the rest of the world agrees’.

Tonglen A Magical Cat

Tonglen A Magical Cat

Have you ever noticed your Cat Companion watching something intently, but you can’t see anything at all where he or she is looking?  Have you ever wondered what your cat could be looking at? Do you think it possible that the cats we love can see into another dimension?  The realm of Fairy perhaps?

I was discussing this with my neighbour yesterday. She is psychic and sees a lot more things than most other people do. I’d never talked about fairies before with her, but the subject came up for some reason or another. She said that she sees fairies quite often and that they are very common. They look to her like streaks of beautiful coloured light, she also said that if you are very lucky, one of them will hover near you.

According to my neighbour, there used to be many more fairies flying around her house before a couple of kittens came to live with her.  She would often see the kittens chasing something. We conjectured, that the fairies felt their peaceful life had been disturbed and were obliged to move to a quiet, Cat free household.

How about attempting to see what your cat is looking at, when he or she seems to be absorbed in something that is invisible to you?  You will need to look at the spot in an unfocussed sort of a way, to see into the magical realm of Fairy.  It will probably take practice.

My neighbour was surprised that I didn’t see fairies.  I see little flashes of light in iridescent colours quite often, outside mainly, maybe this is my way of seeing them? Also there are quite a few cats around me, which if our theory of cat chasing fairies is correct, would mean that any self respecting fairy, would steer well clear of me!

There’s one thing for sure, the cats we love are looking at something!

PhoebusOur cat companions are part of our family so learning to understand them is a part of cat care, for they speak to us in a language we often don’t comprehend.

When a cat scratches on the furniture she is communicating to the other members of the family that this is her territory and that this is where she belongs.  We humans tend to react negatively because we don’t want our furniture destroyed. This only tends to exacerbate the problem as the cat will associate scratching the furniture with getting attention and then seek to attract attention by scratching the furniture! The best way to deal with this is either to put up a scratching post, move the furniture, and/or to cover the furniture with something you don’t much care about.

Even more frustrating is when a cat messes in a corner or somewhere other than the litter tray. We humans fuss and fume over the mess, when this is the cats way of saying that something is wrong. The cause could be either that she is afraid to use the tray (or to go outside) for some reason or that she is ill and associates the tray with pain and is trying to get your attention to the fact that something is wrong with her.  Find out what is upsetting her and if the problem persists and you can’t find a reason, this may well have to involve a trip to the Veterinarian.

Similarly and even worse from the human perspective, is when a cat messes on the bed.  This has happened to me on several occasions and only occurs when the cat is very afraid indeed. She is going on your bed because this is the only place in her world that signals safety.  You need to act and find the cause of the problem and remove it.  Castigating the cat is more than counter productive, she needs your help badly.
